ABOUT BAD DADDY
How does someone from rural Iowa create some of the most unique and flavorful hot sauce products in the world?
As Dan Whetstone’s mother Ruth often commented of her son Dan, “He was always such a bright and engaging child!” From joining the local small-town “bum” curbside at three years old for a very serious talk on the state of the world, to momentarily freezing during his solo at a church assembly, then confidently belting out, “If you like beer, then you’ll like Schlitz!” (a beer commercial jingle he’d heard on TV), Dan has a unique way of connecting with people in any circumstance.
Drawing upon his agricultural background, Dan gardened as a young United States Air Force captain while stationed near San Antonio, Texas. Among other things, he grew hot peppers for his Thai, Vietnamese, and Filipino friends. Peppers thrived under his expert hands. However, bumper pepper crops proved too much for his friends. Now what?
The frugal Iowan couldn’t bear the thought of wasting peppers, so Dan studied the cuisines of his Asian friends and started experimenting making pepper sauces. Although career moves interrupted his sauce hobby, friends who loved his initial sauces encouraged him to persevere, and to share his sauces with the world.
Twenty years and 30+ recipes later, Dan is sharing his passion for exceptional hot pepper sauce flavors with you!

Bad Daddy utilizes peppers as the primary ingredient, and decreasing the amount of vinegar to providing maximum pepper flavor. Different pepper varieties are carefully selected and blended to add flavor, depth, and complexity. Blending peppers also results in moderating heat levels for every customer’s preference. Finally, carefully selected herbs and spices further accent the sauces to complement foods with which the sauces are paired.
